Narita Boy is a game that has no qualms in indulging in its lore. If the in-game lingo used in this introduction felt a bit disorienting, I don’t blame you as I felt the same way for the majority of the game. Only by unlocking those codes can the Creator retrieve his memory and save the Digital Kingdom. To do that, you will have to travel across the Kingdom’s three regions to find the 12 remaining Totems that hold The Creator’s memories and piece their code together while defeating the Stallion menace impeding your way. In a bid to prevent this catastrophe, Motherboard, and her agents launched the Narita Boy protocol and it just so happens that you are the chosen one to get sucked into the code and save the Digital Kingdom. If The Creator permanently forgets his memories, the Digital Kingdom will be lost while its inhabitants will be subjugated to HIM’s darkest desires. But in this Digital Kingdom, law and order is under threat, as the evil Sorcerer HIM is back with his Stallions and plans to take control of the region while destroying the memories of Lionel Pearl, The Creator. Unbeknownst to gamers, including yourself, an entire civilization is thriving within the game’s code. ![]() If you're on the fence about this and dig the aesthetics, absolutely give it a shot! It's super fun, and I only wish there were more levels.It’s the ‘80s and Lionel Pearl Nakamura’s hit console, Narita One, and its flagship game, Narita Boy, are flying off game store shelves worldwide. This runs really smooth on the Switch (I know other versions had some bugs that made certain levels impossible, but I only experienced one minor glitch in my Switch playthrough which made a boss easier, so I didn't mind). I'm baffled by all of the negative reviews. Update: I finished the game yesterday, and would still give this a solid 9/10. That being said if you're looking for a game that's a work of art, this is absolute eye candy and an enjoyable ride through a retro-futuristic fantasy world. I would also like to be able to backtrack and replay certain moments, which doesn't seem possible so far. I could go on, the only drawbacks so far are the lack of a map and some ambiguity in where to go at certain points, but I see those as just part of the puzzle solving, and it hasn't gotten to the point of frustration. holy crap, the Synth Bard's theme is incredible, as is the western theme in the desert. The visuals in this game alone are worth the price of admission, the dialogue is lore-heavy yet clever and funny, and the music. There have been a few moments so far (no spoilers, but they involve transformations) where the game completely surprised me with awesomeness. I read some negative reviews recently so I was fully prepared to not enjoy the game but it is so enjoyable and it's kept me smiling the entire time. Been waiting for this for a couple years now, and the trailers sold me on the amazing character animations, unique designs, and techno 80s throwback aesthetic.
